When you?re interested in product advertising online you have a number of different options. These options range from pay-per-click (PPC) advertising through search engines like Google to direct ad placement, and include several other alternatives. The most important part of product advertising online, though, is making sure that you have some way to measure the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns. Measurement is important because you need to know whether your online product advertising is profitable or is costing you money.
Below are some of the top ways to approach product advertising online, and how to measure whether what you do is effective or not.
The easiest way to try out paid product advertising online is with Google AdWords or Yahoo! Advertising. By giving them a budget that you are willing to spend, along with information about your website, you can reach hundreds, thousands, or even millions of search engine users. In this form of online advertising, you select and bid on key terms that are related to the products you sell.
For example, if your company sells a variety of cocoa and chocolate products, you might bid on the keyword, ?hot chocolate?. The amount you bid on this term dictates where your advertisement appears in relation to other businesses who are bidding on the same keyword. Generally speaking, the amount you bid is the amount you will be charged if somebody clicks on your ad.
Let?s say that you bid $1.50 for the term ?hot chocolate?. To keep things simple, assume that there?s a competitor who is bidding $2.00 and another one that is bidding $1.25. This means that your ad will appear in the #2 slot ? below the $2.00 bidder and above the $1.25 bidder when a person does an internet search for the term ?hot chocolate?.
The great part about PPC advertising is the fact that you can measure and monitor almost every aspect of your product advertising online. The goal here (as is the case with other forms of advertising as well) is to make more money from your online advertising than you are paying for your ads.
An alternative to PPC is display advertising. With this approach, you pay for the number of times your advertisement appears instead of the number of times it?s clicked. With display advertising you either contact website owners directly or work with one of many display advertising networks to get your product advertisement to appear on websites.
The price you pay for display advertising is known as CPM. This stands for Cost Per Thousand and represents the amount you will pay for every thousand times your advertisement appears (known as an impression). For example, if the rate is $2 CPM and your advertisement appears 50,000 times in a week, then you will be charged $100 (50,000/1,000 *$2 = $100) for that week.
Some websites also charge a flat rate for display advertising. For example, you may pay $500 for your online ad to appear on a website for a month.
Although not as easy as with PPC, you can still fairly easily measure your return on investment with display advertising.
For even more focus on your website, consider paying for product reviews. This type of product advertising online involves hiring a website, typically a blog, to write a review about one or more of your products. The blog includes a link to your website as well as a disclosure, as required by law, that they were paid to write the review. If you pursue the product review approach, make sure that the review is impartial. If the review seems too ?rosy?, readers will quickly see through this veil and will be turned off.
If your products or services are local, consider paying for local listings. There are also free ways to do this as well. For example, if you?re a landscape architect in the Minneapolis area, then you might purchase a local listing on one of the many local directories. Local listings do best when you sell your products or services in a specific location and you also have a physical business address.
Affiliate programs represent an interesting approach for product advertising online. Your cost with affiliate programs is not out-of-pocket but rather an opportunity cost. With affiliate programs, you work with other websites and help them promote your products or services. When these websites (known as affiliates) send a visitor to your site and that person buys something from you, then you pay the affiliate a percentage of the sale (usually between 5% and %15).
Many online businesses find the greatest success in pursuing product advertising online that includes a combination of paid advertising as well as organic traffic. The term organic refers to the natural ranking that a website has in the search engines.
If you own a furniture store in Tampa, the content on your website might target keywords such as Tampa furniture store, Tampa discount furniture, Tampa furniture outlet, etc. If you rank well for these search terms, then your website will appear higher in search engine listings. When a potential customer searches for a term you target and then clicks on your website link, you don?t pay anything for that traffic.
Studies have shown that internet users generally trust organic listings more than paid advertisements and, as such, are more likely to click on a website link that ranks at the top of search engine results.
It may take you a little while to zero in on the product advertising strategy that works best for your website. Like many learning experiences, this will require some trial and error. To know whether you have hit on a winning strategy though, you will need to know where your customers are coming from.
Use a web analytics program, like Google Analytics, to track where your website?s visitors are coming from. Drill down in the data that the program collects to find out whether the visitors to your website from a particular source are new or returning visitors.
You can even see if the visitors from your paid product advertisements are clicking through several pages to make a purchase or if they are ?bouncing,? which means leaving your site from the page that they entered on. Google Analytics is free to use and easy to install on your website, which makes it a great tool for you as you refine your paid product advertising online strategy.
While you will inevitably make adjustments as you refine your online advertising strategy, there are some key success factors that all online advertising shares?
Getting a visitor to your site is much easier than having them buy something from you. Even with the best online advertising strategy, if a prospective customer doesn?t find what they?re looking for when they get to your site, you?re not going to make a sale. Make sure you do everything possible on your site to trigger a sale. Make sure your website is professional, your content is compelling, and you have a product that people want to buy.Test out a variety of ads and keep those that perform the best. Even small wording or color changes can improve the performance of product advertising online.Foster a sense of community. Just like the offline world, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Get engaged with social media and cultivate online relationships with your customers.Honesty is the best policy! Don?t mislead people with inaccurate claims, descriptions or testimonials. This approach will only cost you in the long run and can even get you banned from some online advertising providers.

Audience members gasp as they watch a live video feed of skydivers jumping out of a plane onto the Moscone Center roof Wednesday morning June 27, 2012 during the Google I/O developers conference keynote speech. (Karl Mondon/Staff)
It was the stunt heard 'round the world: On Wednesday, as Google (GOOG) co-founder Sergey Brin prepared to promote his latest pet project, a team of sky divers leapt from a zeppelin hovering over San Francisco's Moscone Center, landed on the roof and hand-delivered to Brin a pair of Google's "Project Glass" computing glasses -- all while connected in real-time to the Internet so those below could see the action from the divers' perspective.
It was such a hit that on Thursday, the company did it again -- and, breaking the maxim that good magicians never reveal their tricks, let slip the details of how they pulled it off.
The death-defying demonstration started as a tongue-in-cheek suggestion about six weeks ago. A team of Ph.D.'s and computer scientists, taken by the challenge, started working full-time on how to send a signal to a tiny, head-mounted computer screen 4,000 feet in the air.
"It's too high for cell coverage, and regular Wi-Fi wasn't reliable enough," said a Google spokesman. "At one point, we used a wok with a Galaxy Nexus phone taped to it."
Meanwhile, the company rustled up some of the world's best professional sky divers, including Palo Alto native J.T. Holmes, who's done jumps for Red Bull and Hotels.com.
(The latter once filmed him booking a hotel room while in free fall.)Bill Dause, who owns the renowned Parachute Center near Lodi where Holmes and Co. trained for the stunt, likened the degree of difficulty to driving in the Indianapolis 500.
"Winds change, there's updrafts and downdrafts near buildings," said Dause, who's been in the business since 1964 and in some circles is half-jokingly suspected of being parachute legend D.B. Cooper.
Dause said jumping out of the dirigible was key to the stunt's timing. "An airplane has to fly around a big, wide circle," he noted. "With this blimp, they could essentially hover."
Actually, it wasn't a blimp but a zeppelin, operated by Mountain View's Airship Ventures. The giant, helium-filled craft -- one of only two in the world -- docks at Moffett Field near Hangar One, where Brin still hopes to get federal permission to keep his private jets.
Considering that the cheapest seat aboard the airship costs $350 for a 45-minute cruise, and that Holmes and his team went through multiple practices with specialized equipment, it's fair to say the stunt set Google back a few bucks.
"We aren't sharing a dollar figure, but as you can imagine, it was expensive," allowed the company spokesman.
Besides cutting a check, the search giant had to secure the cooperation of Federal Aviation Administration officials in San Jose, Oakland and Washington, D.C., along with that of the San Francisco mayor's office and police and fire departments.
"FAA safety inspectors observed the jumps, and they went off without a hitch," said Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the agency. The biggest key was getting FAA permission to let the zeppelin operate with the door open.
"We got very lucky today in that everything went off so seamlessly," Brin said in a posting to his Google+ account -- which, incidentally, features a photo of him sky diving.
Zany stunts, of course, long have been part of Silicon Valley's makeup. At Sun Microsystems, April Fools' pranks included a giant arrow running through the fifth-floor office of CEO Scott McNealy and the disassembling of Chief Scientist Bill Joy's Porsche (which was reassembled on an island in a man-made lake; he had to row out in a dinghy to retrieve it).
Still, Neil Cohen, a veteran valley public relations and marketing guru, said he couldn't' remember a stunt in this weight class.
"With so many moving parts, so much stuff could have gone wrong," he said. "I wonder what the backup plan was."

The City of Waterloo deserves a solid pat on the back for reducing the individual tax burden on its citizens, said a pair of city councillors.
Karen Scian, the chair of the finance and strategic planning committee, and Mark Whaley both gave kudos to staff and their fellow city councillors for reducing the city?s debt per capita to a 10-year low in 2011.
Coun. Whaley said the city heard many a ?disparaging remark? when its debt levels were reported to be one of the highest in Ontario. Now that the levels have improved, ?I hope it will be reported with as much gusto,? he added.
In the city?s 2011 consolidated financial statements, presented for approval at the June 18 Finance and Strategic Planning Committee meeting, council heard the total debt per capita in Waterloo is about $563 based on a population of 124,900 people.
In 2002, total debt per capita in Waterloo was $735.
?It?s a bright new day for Waterloo; we?ve turned the corner,? Coun. Scian said. ?Staff and everyone else around this table deserve some congratulations for their hard work.?
The city has seen debt levels per capita steadily decrease over the last 10 years, the report said, with the lone exception coming in 2010, when the City of Waterloo was issued about $11.8 million in short-term debt to fund new infrastructure projects.
The 2011 financial statements also pegged a final operating budget surplus for 2011 at about $3.3 million, the result of additional revenues from supplementary income taxes, investment income, penalties and interest on taxes and development fee revenue.
Also highlighted in the report was how reserve levels have grown over the last 10 years to almost twice the 2004 levels ? from less than $25 million to $40.4 million ? although that amount is expected to decrease as the city continues to implement the planned capital expansion and replacement programs.
Overall, the report said, the financial statements ?reflect a strengthening in overall financial position,? and conclude the city is ?well positioned to provide excellent programs and services to the citizens and taxpayers of the City of Waterloo.?
However, reserve and debt levels continue to be an area of concern, according to the report and ?require continued monitoring,? along with infrastructure and assessment growth.
The 2011 financial statements, audited by KPMG, were found to be in accordance with generally accepted Canadian accounting principles.
?We?re trying to be as open and accountable as possible,? Paul Hettinga, the city?s director of accounting, told council.

Brainwave-guided interfaces are common. Most of the time, though, they're not what we'd call subtle. PLX Devices hopes to have that licked through the XWave Sport, a brain interface that disguises all its sensors through a fuzzy, exercise-friendly headband. Underneath the incredibly 1980s-retro (but washable!) look, you'll get about six hours per charge of tracking for concentration, relaxation and other noggin-related data that can transmit over Bluetooth to apps for Android, iOS or old-fashioned PCs. An SDK is available now, but pre-orders for the $100 XWave Sport won't ship until September 20th. That should give us enough time to perfect our Flashdance reenactments.

The Japanese design studio Takram was asked to design a water bottle for people to use after a hypothetical future environmental disaster. Takram, imagining what a world would be like with rising sea levels and radioactive disasters, thought that we probably wouldn?t be carrying around water bottles. Instead, they designed an entirely new organ system, to be implanted in the body, that would mean we used less water in the first place.
Its solution, called the Hydrolemic System, involves both harvesting more moisture from the air than our current unmodified bodies are capable of, and also doing more to retain the water we have. The company imagines that system would require us to drink 0.1 cups of water a day.
Inserts that go in our noses convert moisture in the air we breathe into water, and other inserts at the ends of our renal and digestive systems keep water from leaving by those routes. A collar on our neck helps prevent perspiration by turning our body heat into electricity, so it doesn?t make us perspire, losing precious liquid.
Click through the slide show for more details.
Let's?hope for a world in which our designers are just designing water bottles with more convenient handles, rather than ones you have to go to the hospital to have installed.

After 10 years of zooming around the world to cover the ozone, climate, and biodiversity negotiations, I realize the outcome of Rio+20 (and meetings of the like) has been staring me in my face.
It became clear when Rio+20 concluded with much applause, but little else in terms of solid outcomes. Yes, there?s a lukewarm 53-page document titled, ?The Future We Want,? detailing ways to alleviate poverty by ramping up sustainable development globally. Yes, some credit is owed to the negotiators since any agreement is better than none (hey, it?s happened before ? just look at the climate talks in Copenhagen). And yes, it?s clear that thousands of sideline events have helped inspire and prompt awareness and actions from the grassroots to international level.
That said, the upshot is difficult to swallow.
Counting pre-meeting negotiations and other secondary events, Rio+20 took place over 10 days. As an Editor for IISD Reporting Services, which covered the nitty-gritty details of the negotiations, side events and special focus days, such as on business and oceans, I?ve been fine-tuning reports as they come in.
While reading through a ?curtain raiser,? overviewing Rio+20?s history, I guffawed at its title, ?A Brief History of UN Sustainable Development Conferences.? Yes, Rio?s outcome, and perhaps the process itself, seemed implied in that title ? unsustainable development conferences.
One doesn?t have to look far for proof. There?s of course the meeting?s carbon footprint. The UN staff alone generated an estimated 3,600 tons of CO2 ? the same amount of GHGs emitted by 640 cars in one year ? and that?s a small fraction of the 50,000 some-odd attendees.
Then, there?s the weak outcome document that acknowledges the potholed progress made in actualizing sustainable development since the 1992 Earth Summit, but does little to address the 1 billion people still living in extreme poverty and 1.3 billion who don?t have electricity in their homes. Reaffirming old commitments (over and over again) is well and good, but delivering commitments on climate change, water and food scarcity, energy development and voracious natural resource use, would have been well timed and inspirational.
Instead, more ?UN Sustainable Development Conferences? are planned to hammer out the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as promised in the ?Future We Want.? This means the next few years will focus on pinpointing what the SDGs are and how to make good on them.
But, outside the negotiations, progress was made in over 200 commitments by business leaders, including, Microsoft?s promise to begin taxing itself on carbon emissions to go carbon neutral, and the Coca Cola Company?s promise to start recycling water in its plants and improve water efficiency by 20 percent by 2015.?The country of Mozambique launched its Green Economy Road map at Rio+20 as a way to guide socially and ecologically responsible growth despite its newfound oil and gas reserves, and the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative pledge of world-wide access to modern energy, gained momentum.
No, I don?t think anyone expected Rio+20 to be a panacea for the fracture between the social, economic and environmental components of sustainable development. Entrenched problems are hard to repair. But, wouldn?t it have been rousing if, in the words of many participants at the Rio Conventions Pavilion (a Rio+20 sideline event), if the negotiations had taken a break from ?business as usual,? and displayed business as ?un-usual.?

Regulated online poker in Nevada is closer to becoming a reality. This past Thursday, the Nevada Gaming Commission granted licenses to two gaming companies to provide systems for online poker partners.
The rival firms, Bally Technologies and International Game Technology (IGT), were both unanimously approved for online gaming licenses. They will not be the companies that will actually run the online poker rooms (in other words, they won?t be the new U.S. versions of Full Tilt Poker or PokerStars), but rather be the ones to supply the systems to whomever will actually run the websites. Thus, it is now a waiting game for Bally and IGT, as they cannot actually do anything until casino operators are licensed to offer online poker to Nevada residents.
Both Bally CEO Richard Haddrill and IGT Executive Vice President of Emerging Businesses Robert Melendres told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that they will be ready to go the moment a casino is approved. Melendres made sure to reiterate that his company will simply be providing the gaming systems, not actually operating the poker rooms, saying, ?I want to make it abundantly clear, IGT has absolutely no intention to compete with our casino partners.?
The two companies have been known entities in Nevada for years, as they are the two leading slot machine manufacturers in the gaming industry. They have plenty of experience meeting Nevada gaming regulations.
The rivals also have online poker software that has been in use for years in Europe. In February, Bally purchased Chiligaming?s (Chili Poker) business-to-business platform, while IGT bought the Entraction network last year. Thus, IGT already has experience in the real money online poker world, while Bally has been operating a play money site for Golden Nugget. Both companies will use the technology already in place in European markets to prevent underage and problem gambling once sites are up and running in Nevada.
Bally Technologies was technically the first company to have its license approved, receiving the thumbs-up 45 minutes before IGT. In a press release, Richard Haddrill said, ?We are grateful to the State of Nevada for this opportunity. We look forward to Bally expanding its leadership role in this exciting new arena of online gaming.?
Similarly, Patti Hart, IGT CEO said in a press release, ?This is an exciting day for interactive wager-based gaming. We are honored to be granted the opportunity to support our customers as they further expand their operations to include online play in the State of Nevada.?
Also on Thursday, the Nevada Gaming Control Board registered Gaming Laboratories International and BMM International to test interactive gaming equipment for the state. This is significant because both have labs around the world and both have tested millions of gaming systems, including those owned by Bally and IGT. Thus, any required system testing by the state should go much faster than if everything was being done from scratch with new companies. ?These systems that have been written about recently have already been tested by GLI,? Gaming Laboratories International CEO James Maida told the Review-Journal. ?We don?t have to retest and do the same process all over again. Our next step is to certify the equipment based on the standards set by Nevada.?

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) ? For years, the children Jerry Sandusky had preyed upon kept quiet about what the former Penn State assistant football coach did to them in echoing shower stalls, empty hotel rooms and the muffled confines of his basement bedroom.
After a swift trial and less than two days of deliberations, a jury issued an emphatic verdict late Friday: Sandusky was guilty on 45 counts of sexual abuse, meaning the man once considered a successor to coach Joe Paterno will likely die in prison.
The verdict is not the end of the scandal that took down Paterno and deeply shook the state's most prominent university. It will play out for years in courtrooms and through a set of ongoing investigations.
But the trial did present one piece of finality: Sandusky was taken away in handcuffs to the county jail. Sentencing will be in about three months, but mandatory minimums will keep him behind bars for life.
"One of the recurring themes in this case was, 'Who would believe a kid?'" Attorney General Linda Kelly said. "The answer is, we in Bellefonte, Pa., would believe a kid."
Sandusky, a retired defensive coach, showed little emotion as the verdict was read, giving his wife, Dottie, and family members a half-wave as the county sheriff led him away.
There were only three acquittals among the charges related to 10 victims, eight of whom took the stand to describe fondling, forced oral sex and anal rape. Many of the accusers testified that they had told no one of the abuse that dated as far back as the mid-1990s ? not parents, not girlfriends and not police.
The accuser known in court papers as Victim 6, whose mother alerted authorities in 1998 after Sandusky took her son into a shower, broke down in tears upon hearing the verdicts in the courtroom. Afterward, a prosecutor embraced him and said, "Did I ever lie to you?"
The man, now 25, testified that Sandusky called himself the "tickle monster" in a shower assault. He declined to comment to a reporter afterward. His mother said: "Nobody wins. We've all lost."
One of the three counts for which Sandusky was acquitted concerned Victim 6, an indecent assault charge. The man testified that Sandusky had given him a bear hug in the shower but at one point he just "blacked out."
The other acquittals were an indecent assault charge related to Victim 5, who said Sandusky fondled him in the shower, and an involuntary deviate sexual intercourse charge regarding Victim 2, the boy graduate assistant Mike McQueary saw being attacked in a campus shower.
That charge resulted in an acquittal because McQueary did not see penetration, juror Joshua Harper told NBC's "Today" on Saturday. But, Harper said, McQueary made it apparent he saw something "that was wrong and extremely sexual."
Almost immediately after the judge adjourned, loud cheers could be heard from a couple hundred people gathered outside the courthouse as word quickly spread that Sandusky had been convicted. The crowd included victim advocates and local residents with their kids. Many held up their smartphones to take pictures as people filtered out of the building.
As Sandusky was placed in the cruiser to be taken to jail, someone yelled at him to "rot in hell!" Others hurled insults and he shook his head no in response.
Defense attorney Joe Amendola was interrupted by cheers from the crowd on the courthouse steps when he said, "The sentence that Jerry will receive will be a life sentence."
In addition to the eight who testified, there were two yet-unidentified victims for whom prosecutors relied on testimony from a university janitor and McQueary, whose account of a sexual encounter between Sandusky and a boy of about 10 years old ultimately led to the Paterno's dismissal and the university president's ouster.
Sandusky did not take the stand in his own defense.
After the verdict was announced, defense attorney Karl Rominger said it was "a tough case" with a lot of charges and that an appeal was certain. He said the defense team "didn't exactly have a lot of time to prepare."
The ex-coach had repeatedly denied the allegations, and his defense suggested that his accusers had a financial motive to make up stories, years after the fact. His attorneys also painted Sandusky as the victim of overzealous police investigators who coached the alleged victims into giving accusatory statements.
One accuser testified that Sandusky molested him in the locker-room showers and in hotels while trying to ensure his silence with gifts and trips to bowl games. He also said Sandusky had sent him "creepy love letters."
Another spoke of forced oral sex and instances of rape in the basement of Sandusky's home, including abuse that left him bleeding. He said he once tried to scream for help, knowing that Sandusky's wife was upstairs, but figured the basement must be soundproof.
Another, a foster child, said Sandusky warned that he would never see his family again if he ever told anyone what happened.
And just hours after the case went to jurors, lawyers for one of Sandusky's six children, Matt, said he had told authorities that his father abused him.
Matt Sandusky had been prepared to testify on behalf of prosecutors, his lawyers said in a statement. The lawyers said they arranged for Matt Sandusky to meet with law enforcement officials but did not explain why he didn't testify.
"This has been an extremely painful experience for Matt and he has asked us to convey his request that the media respect his privacy," the statement said. It didn't go into details about his allegations.
Defense witnesses, including Dottie Sandusky, described Sandusky's philanthropic work with children over the years, and many spoke in positive terms about his reputation in the community. Prosecutors had portrayed those efforts as an effective means by which Sandusky could camouflage his molestation as he targeted boys who were the same age as participants in The Second Mile, a charity he founded in the 1970s for at-risk youth.
Sandusky's arrest in November led the Penn State trustees to fire Paterno as head coach, saying he exhibited a lack of leadership after fielding a report from McQueary. The scandal also led to the ouster of university President Graham Spanier and criminal charges against two university administrators for failing to properly report suspected child abuse and perjury.
The two administrators, athletic director Tim Curley and now-retired vice president Gary Schultz, are fighting the allegations and await trial.
The family of Paterno, who died exactly five months before Sandusky's conviction, released a statement saying: "Although we understand the task of healing is just beginning, today's verdict is an important milestone. The community owes a measure of gratitude to the jurors for their diligent service. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and their families."
In a statement, Penn State praised the accusers who testified and said that it planned to invite the victims of Sandusky's abuse to participate in a private program to address their concerns and compensate them for claims related to the school.
Sandusky had initially faced 52 counts of sex abuse. Prosecutors dropped one count and the judge tossed three others during the trial, on grounds two were unproven, one was brought under a statute that didn't apply and another was duplicative.

Yesterday afternoon MLB handed down an eight-game suspension to Joel Peralta for having pine tar on his glove, but the Rays reliever appealed and was available to pitch last night against the Nationals and the manager who ratted him out to umpires, Davey Johnson.
And sure enough manager Joe Maddon brought Peralta into the sixth inning of a tie game in relief of starter Matt Moore.
Peralta got the first two outs, but then gave up a double to Jesus Flores, intentionally walked Adam LaRoche, and gave up another double to Danny Espinosa that scored two runs. He ended up taking the loss in a 5-2 defeat, falling to 0-3 with a 4.20 ERA on the season.
So the Nationals get the last laugh and take two of three games in the interleague series, although the Rays did win the actual game in which Peralta was ejected Tuesday night. And remarkably Maddon and Johnson managed to avoid throwing any more fire on their public war of words.

PACIFIC, Wash. -- Council members in the town of Pacific are meeting with the city's insurance company this Monday in executive session. Some worry the city is at risk of losing insurance coverage, which would effectively shut Pacific down.
"We cannot function as a city" if Pacific loses coverage, says councilmember John Jones. "Everything we do becomes completely liable. Every employee becomes liable as an individual. You shut your city down."
At the center of the controversy is Cy Sun, the newly elected mayor. The 82 year old won the election as a write-in candidate campaigning on clearing the "money-grubbers" out of city government.
Under his leadership at least seven department heads have been fired or quit their posts.
"What I did was clear out all the high salary people that wasn't doing very much," Sun said.
But some say there are too few people left to run city hall. Business owners complain about delays in permitting, licensing and road projects.
Sun admits to signing one building permit himself, before he realized that he wasn't qualified to do so. Critics say his actions have opened them up to liability issues.
The council meeting is 630 p.m. Monday night.

Reports are surfacing that Syria may have shot down a Turkish fighter jet over Syrian waters in the Mediterranean Sea. NBC's Richard Engel reports.
By NBC News and news services
Office of Turkey's prime minister said late Friday that?Syria?downed a Turkish F-4 air force jet?over the Mediterranean.
Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan told?reporters at a news conference covered by NBC?News he could not say whether the plane had crashed or been shot down.
He said he had no word on the fate of the plane's?two airmen.
"The chief of general staff has made the necessary statement about the missing plane. I am not saying it was brought down at the point it fell. It is not possible to say this without knowing the exact facts," Erdogan told a news conference.
Turkish ships and helicopters were searching for the airmen in cooperation with Syrian vessels, Erdogan?said.
He said he wasn't aware of any Syrian claims of responsibility for bringing down the plane or of earlier reports that?Syrian authorities had apologized.?
Earlier, Lebanon's Hezbollah-owned Al-Manar television station said?that Syrian air defenses shot down a Turkish military aircraft, quoting Syrian security sources.?
"Syrian security sources confirmed to a Manar correspondent in Damascus that Syrian defense forces shot down the Turkish fighter jet," a news flash on the Beirut-based station said.??
Pro-Iranian Al-Mayadeen television station, which is based in Lebanon, also quoted what it said were Turkish sources as saying a jet had been shot down by Syrian air defenses.
Turkey -- a member of NATO -- earlier said it had lost contact with a plane while it was over the sea off the southeastern coast, and a television station said it had crashed in Syrian territorial waters.?
In a statement, Turkey's military said a search and rescue operation was under way. It lost radar and radio contact with the plane after it took off from Erhac Airport in the eastern province of Malatya.?
Two crew were aboard the F-4 at the time of the crash, the Turkish state news agency Anatolia said on its website, citing Malatya governor Ulvi Saran.?
The Hurriyet daily newspaper reported that the plane had gone down in international waters and that the two airmen had been found alive and well following a search operation by Turkish forces.?
The Chief of General Staff declined to comment further on the incident beyond the written statement.?
Turkish warplanes regularly patrol along and off Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast.?

Well, it was a fun rumor while it (barely) lasted.
But following reports that claimed Demi Moore was dating True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello, a reliable source has now come out and shot that chatter down: True Blood hunk Joe Manganiello.
"There is 100 percent zero truth to that," Manganiello told Ryan Seacrest yesterday on the host's 102.7 KIIS FM radio show. "I met her once at a premiere and I maybe talked to her for three minutes."
And what did the stars discuss during that meeting? Getting naked, of course, as Manganiello stars in the upcoming Magic Mike.
"She was in Striptease, so I was like, 'Hey, you played a stripper! I'm playing a stripper,'" he told Seacrest, adding, "And we kind of had a three-minute conversation about exchanging stripping notes, and that was it."
So there was talk of getting naked? Sounds like there's a chance for these two after all!
