The Conference of European Rabbis, an organisation that represents Orthodox Jews, has?criticised?as ?dangerous and inexcusable? the sale on iTunes of an Arabic-language version of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a notorious hoax text that supposedly describes a Jewish conspiracy to achieve world domination.
Conference president Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt stated that the text should be available for academic study ?in its proper context?, but insisted that ?to disseminate such hateful invective as a mobile app is dangerous and inexcusable?. He added that the app was clearly intended for ?propagating hatred?.
Israeli information minister Yuli Edelstein added to calls for Apple to remove the content from iTunes.
?They wouldn?t allow pedophilia and pornography on their networks,? he said. ?They shouldn?t allow xenophobia, anti-Semitism or racism.?
Apple is yet to comment on the controversy.
