Court nixes multiple suits in different forums - Business Management ...

Courts are getting tough on employees who file multiple lawsuits in different forums by requiring consolidation into one court. Employees who don?t cooperate end up out of court.

Recent case: Laura was fired when she refused to sign a new employment agreement after an earlier one expired. She sued in state court, contesting her firing over the agreement, as well as bonuses she said she was owed. She also filed a sex discrimination lawsuit in federal court.

Her former employer wanted all her claims to be consolidated into the state claim. Attorneys on both sides went back and forth about the proper venue for hearing Laura?s discrimination claim.

The judge in the state case grew tired of the debate and issued a ruling: Laura should have added her discrimination complaint to the already existing lawsuit. (MacIntyre v. Lender Processing Services, No. 12-1514, DC MN, 2012)
