"Well shit."
Dalton had sighed as his gaze came upon another empty store. It was either cleared out by survivors or zombies. Probably the first option, given that it wasn't just meat that was taken. Dalton had been getting the same results each time he went to a convenience store. Knowing that the supermarkets would either be emptied out or filled with hordes of the undead, he had stuck to smaller stores, seeing as most people would go far a Wal-Mart or something.
With his Berretta M9 in hand, he continued his search through the mess that used to be New York. Wrecked cars and a few tanks were scattered across the main streets. He had to stick to the sides and go into the alleyways occasionally to avoid any unnecessary conflict with any 'bone-strippers' as his once alive friends called them. They were long gone by now, taken from him by the 'horde'.
Being alone sucked. He had nobody to converse with, nobody to help him. Everything he did now was done carefully, so as not to waste any effort at all. Being alone also proved to have greater risk of him dying. If he were to get injured by an accident, he'd possibly be unable to move and starve to death. Maybe even be eaten himself. The stress from such factors was overwhelming, to say the least.
Maybe it was luck, or maybe it was his training, but Dalton found himself rather proficient in survival. He'd have to thank the Corps for that. However, even with all his training, he was still vulnerable to just one bite. It could it it all for the ex-marine. To think; he was promoted in the Marines just a month or two before this, thinking it was one of his better opportunities. Now, he was struggling to find food and munitions.
Noticing his next stop, another little store, he began his pace towards it, checking all directions on his way. He noticed the door open, and was about to figure the store another dead end until he saw inside, and noticed not everything in it was missing. He lit up and picked up the pace, entering the store.
However.... he tripped on rubbled from a nearby crash as he entered the place.
